New Snowshoe Trails in Gatineau Park

Click for a larger view of these three new snowshoe trails conveniently located near the south-east end of Gatineau Park.

One of the things discussed at the Winter Trails Roundtable meetings over the last year plus has been, on the one hand, an increasing demand for snowshoe trails in Gatineau Park, and on the other hand, the need for these to be serviced (as ski trails are) by heated shelters.

The NCC has solved this neatly by adding trails 64, 65 and 66 starting from the Relais Plen Air which is tucked behind Ecole Secondaire Mont Blue on Boulevard-de-la-Cite-des-Jeunes. Relais Plen Air is home to Skinouk but is open for other park users as well.

As you can see from the topo lines on the map, the new snowshoe trails have some interesting ups and downs and include a few good lookout places.

You can buy a paper copy of this map at the Gatineau Park Visitor Centre as well as at many outdoor stores in the Ottawa/Gatineau area (though they hadn’t arrived when I asked yesterday at my local store). Or you can download a PDF of the map here.
