The NCC website indicates that both P5 (penguin) and P15 (the snowshoe parking lot on the Cross Loop Road) are closed for the season.

- 2012-02-06 by David Brownrigg from P17 [Wakefield]Spring like conditions were prevalent this morning from P17 to Lac Phillipe and back. Tracks continue to be on the icey side aggravated by chunks of ice falling off trees and pine needles and oak leaves gumming up portions of the track in spots. Vi.... Continue reading → […]
- 2012-02-05 by Laura Nerenberg from P5 [Penguin]As I'm still recovering from an recent "glute" injury, we stuck to a gentle classic ski on Gatineau Parkway today. GuideGatineau previously listed upcoming events linked to a Google calendar. I found it onerous to maintain though and combined with technical difficulties that lead me to hide it away. If however, some sweet volunteer wanted to take on the task of keeping a Google calendar up to date, I'd be only too happy to bring it back. If you're that magnificent volunteer please send me an email.Meta

And the ‘hang glider’ parking lot… Is it closed forever? Tell us NCC, How might one reach the Shrine, Shrine boulders and Western cliffs?
I see in this document (circa Nov 2009 and presaging the Ecosystems Conservation Plan) “It is proposed that the parking lot and access pathway to the hang-gliding departure site be eliminated.”
Does anyone know which parking area, a 1-kilometre access pathway and a departure zone for the Hang Gliding they are referring to.
OOPs there – I’ll bet that it is the Mountain Road Parking lot at the 90 degree turn which gives access to the escarpment routes to Western Hut and the Champlain Lookout
Yep, that’s the one. One might now access the climbing areas from the Champlain lookout causing even greater damage to the fragile escarpment.(Find Turtle sky lake off of Champlain trail and follow Yellow dot trail down)
Normally, I’m ready to give the NCC the benefit of the doubt, but here the NCC gets failing grades for lack of transparency & planning.
The lot is assumed ‘closed’ , BTW, as the ditch culvert has been removed.
