Event: CPAWS Snowshoe Excursion
When: Sun, Feb 28 1:00 pm – 3:30 pm
Description: CPAWS Ottawa Valley is hosting a guided snowshoe excursion in Gatineau Park on Sunday, February 28, 2010 at 1 PM.

We will meet in Parking Lot 15 (directions available at www.cpaws-ov-vo.org) – look for the CPAWS table that will be set up with information and free hot chocolate (please bring your own thermos!). The guided portion of the hike will last approximately 60 minutes, however you are more than welcome to continue on after the CPAWS portion has ended.

Please bring snowshoes (we will try to have a few extra pairs on hand), and all necessary gear/clothing. The hike will be suitable for all skill levels and ages- everyone is welcome! Event is by donation only and is open both existing CPAWS members and non-members.

CPAWS Ottawa Valley has been actively working for better protection for Gatineau Park for over 40 years. Last year CPAWS-OV had an opportunity, with Bill C-37, An Act to Amend the National Capital Act, to seek increased protection for the park. Unfortunately, Bill C-37 died with proroguation of Parliament in December 2009.

Come out to learn something new about Gatineau Park, to enjoy the beautiful winter season, to get a bit of exercise & fresh air, to meet other like minded individuals, and/or to be part of the solutions being advanced by CPAWS-OV to better protect the park. We look forward to seeing on Sunday, February 28th!

If you are interested in attending, or have questions about the event, please email: ov-volunteer@cpaws.org

Event: Women’s Daytime Nordic Ski Training
When: Mon, Mar 1 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Description: Our lively group has quadrupled in size! We have almost reached capacity and will be capping off the membership in a week or two.
Dryland is over and we are now skiing! We meet in Gatineau park on Friday afternoons for a session of classic technique drills, video analysis, intervals and easy group skis. In January we will continue with the Friday sessions, but will add a more casual Monday outing which could be either classic or skating. For those who are interested, there is also an option for heart rate training and very informal time trials. In the new year we will be skiing in Gatineau Park and at Nakkertok.

Who: Motivated women in their 50’s or older, who are comfortable on skis (nothing fancy, but no beginners).
We are not elite skiers, however a basic level of aerobic fitness is a must. In the Winter we will be skiing on a variety of trails including some of the more hilly ones in Gatineau Park and at Nakkertok.

When: Fridays and Mondays 1:00 – 3:00 (or later)

Where: Gatineau Park and Nakkertok ski trails
