Jean-Paul Murray made a couple of posts that I moved and I wanted to explain why. I’ve talked to him about it. First I’ll quote those posts, then I’ll explain. He first said:
“The NCC is the greatest threat to the park’s ecology.
Of course, according to NCC logic, rock climbing does way more damage than the construction of 119 new houses in the park, and the removal of 8 square miles of park land.
I’m sure NCC commissars really believe that Rock climbing is way more deleterious to the ecology than the building of houses in the Meech Lake fish habitat, below the water mark, on the lakebed…
Yup, rock climbing sure does more damage to the ecology than using dynamite to clear a patch of Meech Lake shoreline to make way for a new house…
Perhaps I do protest too much.

And then:
“I left a comment earlier, and Charles Hodgson erased it. I guess he doesn’t like the NCC to be criticized.
“For all those who love Gatineau Park,” indeed.”
My reasoning for removing these comments from a post about rock climbing potential bans is that I saw that post as potentially valuable in stimulating input from other users on the user vs. conservation balance of park management (and the masterplan). I suspected that Jean-Paul’s post might discourage other people from commenting. I believe, after speaking with him he understands now why I made this move.
