I have never had a car/bike conflict in the park because I bike solo. The real problem seems to be groups of cyclists riding beside each other. I see this all the time and often yell over “single file”. These rude cyclists make car drivers resent me and make things more dangerous for me so [...]

Forgot to mention the horse flies. They swarm you at the shore but don’t seem to follow you out into the water. They loved my bike and shoes. These were covered in them when I got back. Couldn’t lounge on the shore for long due to them. I was prepared for black flies but no amount of DEET can discorage these big boys.

I am not good enough to ski the hard side of wolf downhill but 16 was one of my favorite trails. Eventually i stopped skiing it except for early just after a big snow storm because the snow shoers would make deep narrow tracks that made it difficult to control my speed in. Interesting how [...]

Swam this weekend at the pond next to Mackay Lake, Lac Leamy, and the Ottawa River at Petrie Island. Biked to all these spots from west end.

skied trail 6 and 34 and 17. 17 was still a bit rough but 6 was great. there was definetly some debris on the trails a couple large trees on trail 8 going back to ridge road. But everything is still pretty good. The beaver ponds are no longer skiable where I was but they [...]

If you had told me I would be skiing on deep snow over beaver ponds in just my t-shirt I don’t know if I would have believed it.
Started at P7 skiied up to Huron cabin and turned right onto the first little lake. The skiing on the lakes was great. The snow is firm and [...]6 months ago · View

Their are some good stories about the history of skiing in the park on Mcgoldrick’s site
http://mcgoldrick.ca/xc-skiing/index.html
and I think I got his story from guidegatineau
http://www.bytown.net/murphyshillskiing.htm
and I got 3 old maps from Craig Story’s site but can’t find the page with the maps now. Perhaps Charles can help.6 months, 3 weeks ago · View

Even though it’s been weeks since the last snow trails 21 and 20 and 18 and 9 and unofficial old trail 13 (1983 map) across the beaver ponds were in great shape. No Demsis here. A couple tricky spots in some places but nothing dangerous and far more enjoyable than the groomed trails.

Beautiful sunny day. Great scenery.
Can’t believe what Demsis did to trail 56. From Taylor to the look out it is a snowmobile trail. No tracks at all and yet not wide enough to skate ski. There was no reason for this with the hard pack underneath. It is fast and bumpy but in many locations [...]6 months, 4 weeks ago · View

Robert Rinfret posted on the forum topic What do you think about grooming on the steeper classic trails? in the group Back Country Trail Lovers:
I have often wondered what am I paying for. I think I would prefer if no grooming occurred at all. Over the years when I have let hikers and snowshoers know they are not supposed to be on the trails I have been greeted with false oblivousness, been ignored, or recieved verbal abuse.
Just friday on [...]8 months ago · View
