Three Hundred Year Old Trees & Rare Butterfly Habitat on Eardly Escarpment

From the Montreal Gazette: One of the few places in Quebec to find juniper (a.k.a. eastern red cedar) in its natural habitat is the Eardley Escarpment in Gatineau Park, where a forest of 15,000 grows, with the oldest tree about 300 years old. This is also a good place to observe the rare juniper hairstreak butterfly (Mitoura gryneus), whose caterpillar feeds only on juniper leaves.
