Chelsea Nordiq Cookie Beiner

I always knew that my kids ski days were powered by chocolate (my mother tells of a friend who practically skied backward tempting his young'uns along the tracks with outstretched goodies.

The Chelsea Nordique are holding their 4th annual Cookie Beiner on Saturday, March 13th from 8:45 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

It is not a race but a series of huts/checkpoints in Gatineau Park where skiers are rewarded at each checkpoint with delicious home-baked cookies.

Who’s invited? Racing Rabbits and Adventure Rabbits from Chelsea Nordiq (parents and siblings) and fellow Mini-Midget and Midget skiers from Nakkertok, Skinouk and Kanata Racers.

Note: that website says "Cookie Biener" is "a blatant rip-off of the famed Norwegian race, the Birkebeiner."  Birkebeiner in turn is supposed to mean "birch leg" or "birch leggings" because of a tale of Norwegians who wore shoes or protective leggings made of birch bark. This would mean that Cookie Beiner should mean "cookie legs" and  as such reinforces my argument that children's cross country skiing is powered by treats.
