I’m a little late off the mark with this but there are almost nightly interpretive sessions at Lac Philippe going on during August. You can see the calendar of what’s on here for events both in French and English. I’ve transposed the English events into the GuideGatineau “upcoming events” list and calendar.

Jean-Paul Murray commented on the blog post John Baird on NCC & Gatineau Park 1 week, 2 days ago · View
Baird’s proposed reform to the National Capital Act was supported only by the Gatineau Park landowners … and the NCC. Besides, senior federal officials have said privately that John Baird has dropped the ball on the Gatineau Park file. Interestingly, Baird says Lemay is “outstanding.” The only other people I know of who have said [...]

A piece in the Ottawa Citizen starts out reporting that John Baird Ottawa West Nepean MP and now government House leader is reassuring government workers that in trying to control government spending, their jobs won’t be at risk. He then goes on with other sunshine messages that might be considered by a cynical person a laying [...]

Charles Hodgson wrote a new blog post: Climber Meeting Called – Frustration Evident 2 weeks, 3 days ago · View
The ongoing saga of discussions between the NCC and rock climbers in Gatineau Park resurfaced yesterday with the posting at the Climbers’ Coalition website of documents and a call for a climber meeting August 17 th. While both sides are making considerable efforts at reaching agreement there remains a real risk that the lack of a happy middle ground [...]

Google alerts sometimes dig up odd things. Here’s an article from the Aug-Sept 2008 Capital Parent newspaper, written by Katherine Fletcher about wolves, their howls and people visiting parks at night to howl themselves.

Judging by the photos, the NCC was responsible for more environmental damage done in one day compared to the damage all the hikers have done in the entire history of the trail.

The Eardley Road is a municipal road. So I believe responsibility for it is shared with Transport Quebec. Mr. McGee should be commended for highlighting the NCC’s shameful closing of more public facilities. An out-of-control madhouse, run by Chelsea City hall, which sees the public as a nuisance and runs the park for the Rhodesian [...]

Jean-Paul Murray commented on the blog post Park Entrance Work Out For Tender 3 weeks, 1 day ago · View
A waste of money, given that funds could be better used to purchase those private properties at Kingsmere and Meech Lake — which the NCC hypocritically says are priorities for acquisition… I believe some 20 such properties have been up for sale over the last 4-5 years. Screwing the public all the way to the [...]

And furthermore, why is the NCC not closing all those unofficial trails at Kingsmere????
Could it be that its masters, the Kingsmere Property Squatters Association has given them orders to stay clear????
Shame on the NCC and the park squatters.

Congratulations to the blogger for denouncing additional NCC mismanagement and hypocrisy.
Clearly, the NCC wants to restrict public access to the park, supported by a sham conservation plan, while allowing park residents to continue raping the park–especially at Meech Lake.
