XCZone claimed on TriRudy that 50cm of snow is forecast for Chelsea this weekend. That made me look at the forecasts. Environment Canada at this point isn’t telling beyond Friday which they predict will bring only 2cm. The Weather Network talks of 20cm from Friday through Sunday. But last weekend the forecast for Montreal was 2 to 4cm and they got 25cm or something, so whatever’s coming will come.
Ski Trail Reports
- 2011-01-12 by Karl Saidla from Old Chelsea []Gatineau Parkway between P8 and Pink Lake was being groomed while I was skiing this morning. There were new classic tracks on both sides, but as of about 11:30, the skate lane had not yet been regroomed. The now is primarily fresh, fast, and of mediu.... Continue reading → […]
- 2011-01-11 by Paul Jaenicke from P7 [Kingsmere]Skied from P7 up to Keogan lodge and back, what a difference a day makes on Ridge which had REAL classic tracks for a change and the tracks were more to the outside of the trail and were nice and firm. Went down trail # 4 which also had been groo.... Continue reading → […]
- 2011-01-11 by Ron Lorenson from P10 [Fortune]Skied from P10 to intersection of Blanchet & #1. A pleasant day with a good dusting of new snow and settled ice fog - in the AM all the trees were frosted from the fog. Pretty well everything has been groomed. The parkways have been done via t.... - 2011-01-10 by Jo-Ann Holden from P8 [Chelsea]An early evening ski on the Doldrums. Hardly worth a report really. It was a really beautiful ski, but not because of the grooming: tired worn out, inconsistent, classic tracks that absolutely should have been redone after the weekend crowds. .... It’s hard to predict snow quantities whent he storm is still over the Pacific, and Sunday’s a long way off. Yesterday’s Weather Network prediciton of 35-45 cm has changed to 20 cm. Who knows what it may be by Monday! However, before the snow comes and covers it up, has anyone found some safe-for-skating natural ice in the park? Ramsay Lake, Lac Kidder?
At this point in the season I’d say safe skating involves wet suits and lifejackets.
To better understand the problem surrounding this weekends predictions, here’s a nice video report.
