I just recorded a piece with Alan Neal about the cross country ski trails in Gatineau Park. I believe it will air on Friday on the CBC Ottawa show All in a Day. If I get a more exact time than “between 3 and 6″ I’ll post an update.
We talked about why the NCC reduced the number of trails and moved to a numbering system instead of the traditional names. I told Alan that the NCC had been receptive to the idea of recognizing Charles Mortureux, the guy who began all the skiing in Gatineau Park, and how I was hopeful that they’d agree to bring back some trail names as well. We also discussed some of the stories behind the trail names like Canyon, Burma and Merry-Go-Round.
