This from the RCMP website:
OTTAWA – May 17, 2011 – The RCMP’s National Capital Region Traffic Services in partnership with the National Capital Commission, Gatineau Police Service, the MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais and the National Capital Commission, set up two routine sobriety checkpoints during the evening of May 14, 2011. In total, more than 300 vehicles were checked.
“We were pleased to have RCMP resources from the National Capital Region Traffic Services as well as partners from Gatineau Police Service, MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais police and the NCC conservation officers on hand to assist with the successful checkpoints,” commented Corporal (Cpl.) Simon Gallant, non commissioned officer in charge of the RCMP’s National Capital Region Traffic Services.
During these operations, the RCMP and its partners checked over 300 vehicles. One person was a suspended driver and was charged accordingly, 1 person was charged for possession of marihuana, 3 vehicles had drugs seized from the occupants, 1 person was arrested on a warrant of arrest and charged with 2 breach of conditions, 1 vehicle was towed, 7 road side screening tests for alcohol were conducted, 4 vehicles had open liquor seized from the occupants with one driver being charged for open liquor and 15 verbal warnings were issued for various minor infractions.
“In addition to apprehending impaired drivers, the sobriety checkpoints also allow the RCMP to reduce fatal traffic collisions and other traffic concerns in an effort to keep federal roadways and properties safe” added Gallant. Cpl. Gallant goes on to state that the public can expect to see more of these types of checkpoints in the coming weeks and at various areas in the National Capital Region and wants to remind motorists that if they plan to drink, they must plan for alternate means of transportation.
The RCMP Traffic Services is responsible for enforcing provincial and federal traffic acts on National Capital Commission roadways in the National Capital Region.
Here am I getting caught Speed Hiking
I’d love to hear the real story of this photo. Was it taken in Gatineau Park? Do the police really cruise around the woods on these 4 wheelers?
The guy in the Tilley is Darrel. He told me it was indeed from Gatineau Park, circa 2007.
Actually we were hiking along a portion of the old horse trail which is just east of Pilon Road heading to the start of the Yellow Box Trail. The RCMP were on a POT patrol I believe.
