To visit this magnificent Estate is to share former Prime Minister Mackenzie King’s love for horticulture, landscaping, and romantic gardens with picturesque ruins. On site, visitors can discover Mackenzie King’s two summer havens, Kingswood cottage, located along Kingsmere Lake and Moorside cottage.
The NCC has initiated a project to renew the visitor experience at Mackenzie King Estate as well as to restore the Kingswood buildings and the site’s picturesque landscape. This three-part project should be completed as a legacy project for Gatineau Park’s 75th anniversary in 2013.
The 231 hectare Mackenzie King Estate is located in the heart of Gatineau Park and will be open to the public, this year, from May 19 until October 16.
Guided tours will be offered to the public and school groups will participate in various programs. Special events will take place on July 1, the last weekend of July and on Labour Day weekend.
The cards that GuideGatineau has begun distributing to promote the website are considered to be highly environmentally responsible due to the fact that the paper used is 100% recycled and is produced using energy from biofuels plus the ink is vegetable based.
