No Paddling Please

Story in the Ottawa Citizen of kayakers who inadvertently snuck up on the Prime Minister’s offical Gatineau Park residence at Harrington Lake (Lac Mousseau).

One Response to No Paddling Please

  1. Back in the day it was the cops’ job to uphold the law; nowadays, not so much…

Despite the NCC’s belief that they can control access to navigable waterways(NCC reg. #37), the truth is that the Navigable Waters Protection Act protects the public’s right to navigation by vessel. An act of parliament is required to exempt a waterway.

So the NCC and RCMP can install all the signage they wish but without any legal backing or exemption, the signs are of no force and effect. All bets are off once one steps foot on the 13 acre property, of course.

In a perfect world, the police would look into the validity and lawfullness of their orders and policies but alas we would be hard pressed to find a single mounty with that attitude these days. After all, the PM needs protection, right?

To think that the police ignore crime around Mousseau(Poaching Prince Willy) then agressively deny rights to citizens. Oh, the injustice…
