Becoming a GuideGatineau member requires you to give us your email address.
- email address’ are not visible to other users or casual web browsers
- they will be used to communicate with you only in the context that you submitted them
- we will never spam you or lend or sell the list of emails we collect
Email addresses submitted either when posting comments or by subscribing to the weekly email newsletter will be treated with the same respect.
The reason GuideGatineau asks for your email address is so the website can notify you when people respond to your submissions. You choose the level of notification: go to My Account>Settings>Notifications in the navigation bar up-top.
HOWEVER, at the moment any personal information that you post in groups, forums or blog comments at GuideGatineau is publicly visible. Therefore please do not post sensitive information.
The BuddyPress technology upon which GuideGatineau is built is evolving fast and there are plans for improved privacy. Expected privacy improvements will enable “members” to restrict their visibility; for example just to “friends.” However, you should be aware that this is not yet in place as at May2010.

In case you can’t see the video it explains why Charles has begun wearing a camera on his head when he visits Gatineau Park (to catch interesting things like wildlife but also to build an inventory of park scenes for use in the weekly GuideGatineau videos). He explains that if you see him with this camera and feel uncomfortable that you should let him know and he’ll be happy to erase your image when he gets home. Since the camera is recording hours of video and he only needs a few minutes here and there it is pretty unlikely that you’ll show up online. Besides that, the intent is not to show recognizable people without their express consent. But if you do see yourself in a GuideGatineau video and would like to be removed we’d be happy to do so. Just contact us.
