Snowshoe trails not as bad as we thought today
Given the lack of fresh snow of late, we were not sure how the trails were holding up in Gatineau Park. However, after spending 90 minutes on trails 60 & 61 in Chelsea, we were quite surprised at the conditions. There were a couple of rocks peeking through, but all in all, it was not as bad as we feared. The weather today was good too – mild but no wind to worry about.
If you have not been out snowshoeing lately because we have bare roads to drive on, fear not. The snowshoe trails are still enjoyable. Don’t break out the hiking boots just yet!
Natasha reports on some Gatineau Park snowshoeing (evidently recovering from a broken leg) but doesn’t say exactly where she went. Pictures though…
Michael reports that he fit in two winter outings yesterday, one in the Park on his snowshoes. His blog has several other snowshoe and ski outing reports.
He says “it’s different” (from Twitter) with a picture.
Different from what?
(Or should that be “Different than what?”?)
No snowshoers have posted reports since the rain but I’m sure that can’t mean that there’s no snowshoeing going on in Gatineau Park. Conditions would likely be pretty good with a solid base and at least 10 or 12cm of fresh snow.
In a bit of an unusual move the NCC website cross country ski trail conditions includes the following snowshoe/hiking note:
Pioneers, Sugarbush and Lauriault trails, as well as the snowshoeing trails, are icy and not recommended for hiking.
