The NCC has issued a press release indicating that the heavy rain we’ve been experiencing has forced several closures in Gatineau Park. Here’s what they have to say about it:
Camping, beaches and roads closed at Philippe and Taylor LakesCanada’s Capital Region — The National Capital Commission (NCC) advises the public that the Philippe and Taylor Lake sectors, the Meech and Philippe Lake beaches and the Pink Lake trail are closed due to the recent torrential rain. Roads, beaches and trails in these areas are flooded and will remain closed until further notice. Water levels at Meech, Philippe and Taylor Lakes are higher than usual.
Below is a summary of the closures in Gatineau Park.
Philippe and Taylor Lake Sectors:
- The road to Philippe Lake is closed to motor vehicle traffic.
- The road to Taylor Lake is closed to motor vehicle traffic.
- Camping sites at Philippe and Taylor Lakes are closed.
Meech and Philippe Lake Beaches:
- Swimming is prohibited at O’Brien and Blanchet beaches (Meech Lake) and at Breton, Parent and Smith beaches (Philippe Lake).
Pink Lake Trail:
- The Pink Lake trail is flooded and impracticable.
NOTE: The La Pêche Lake sector, which includes the beach, as well as the Mackenzie King Estate remain open.
The NCC urges the public to keep personal safety in mind and respect signage and barricades in place.
Err, what they mean is that the bridges to Philippe Lake campground were completely washed out leaving many campers stuck in the campground.
A good picture on the CBC website.
