Gatineau Parkway as seen by Google Maps Street View

One day last summer I was cycling in Gatineau Park when I saw a car go by with a strange dohicky up on top of it.

“That’s the Google Street View camera” I said to another cyclist nearby.

Today Google released Street View in Google Maps in Canada and there, along with many many other drive-by filmings, are little pieces of Gatineau Park.

I can see by cruising  their images of the parkway that the Google crew only filmed as far as the near the Hickory Trail.  I see also that they’ve cherry-picked the images—some from their drive up, some from their drive down—and in so doing have edited me out of their records.

But 17 cyclists and one rollerblader were captured.

Who are they?

I’ve sifted through the various views and pulled out images.

If you see yourself or a friend and you care to let me know drop me a line. I’ll even offer up prizes.

How about two copies of my book History of Wine Words in which I explore the etymology of such things as Merlot and Chardonnay.

I’ll give one copy to someone who identifies themselves in the Google Street View photos, and another copy to a friend who tags someone in the photos.

Images 18 & 19 are taken at the northern junction of the Gatineau Parkway and des Allumettieres and show 3 people but in pretty small images.
