NCC Rock Climbing Page

The official Gatineau Park web page entitled Rock Climbing Agreement has changed. The change is dated April 23, 2010 but it just came to my attention today.

Whereas the text of the page makes reference to climbing restrictions outlined in a PDF pamphlet, the link to that pamphlet has disappeared and in its place is a link to a short summary document that seems to have been extracted from something called Ecological Evaluation and Identification of Rock Climbing Sites to Be Retained in Gatineau Park Study dated February 2010.

The summary concludes:

The decision to maintain certain rock climbing faces demonstrates NCC’s willingness to allow rock climbing in Gatineau Park, but implies a significant investment, which calls for cooperation from the stakeholders. In future, the NCC could eventually consider the relevance of increasing the number of rock faces available; however, this decision will be made in light of the Gatineau Park Master Plan Review and based on the success of existing facilities, respect for the agreement with the climbers’ coalition, and the availability of development resources.

One Response to NCC Rock Climbing Page

  1. Eric Grenier of the Climbers’ Coalition explained to me that the above extract is the executive summary of the complete study that the NCC presented on the day they announced the conservation plan and that the complete study is available for download from the coalition website. I should have known that I suppose.

That report is in French and 35M. I have squished it down to 23M and repost it here.
