Good conditions toward the tower
Did classic from P10 to Wolf Trail. Conditions were quite good - FP, CP, #24, #1 had been groomed today - excellent grooming. The one problem was that the lower section of #24 (from #40 back to #1) still hasn’t been trackset - it’s skier compacted with wobbly classic tracks and an irregular skating track - solved the problem by using the short-cut (between #24 and #1) across the beaver pond - a much better choice than #24. As Jo-Ann noted the dusting of new snow was on the slow side.

Charles Hodgson wrote a new blog post: March 7 is Norway Day in Gatineau Park 17 hours, 14 minutes ago
From the NCC website:
You are invited to join us on Sunday, March 7, 2010, at the Gatineau Park Visitor Centre, to celebrate Norway Day, and discover some traditional Norwegian treats.
This year, the Norway Day celebrations in Gatineau Park will be offered as a scaled-down version, due to the fact that [...]

Gentlemen. Please refrain from comments of a personal nature. I would like GuideGatineau to enable airing of different opinions but I do not want it to become a forum for invective.

Just a relaxing classic ski on trail 53. Fabulous weather and the 5 day old tracks are still holding. They were very hard, very fast (sometimes faster than I liked!). There was one bad icy spot to watch out for, but otherwise it was just just hard-. . .

A note on who wrote what. Blog posts at sub-blogs like the news blog, ski report blog and snowshoe blog use a "theme" (WordPress jargon for "the look") that does not identify the blogger who posted the report. This will change with the new look. I do want people to know who said what. It's [...]

Charles Hodgson wrote a new blog post: Google Street View – On Gatineau Park Trails? 23 hours, 17 minutes ago
When Google Street View came to Canada it did edge up the Gatineau Park parkways a little bit. But it hasn’t given us the “immersive experience” for the trails of Gatineau Park.
Not yet!
Here are two videos showing our potential future. Should this happen in Gatineau Park?

I kind of like my immersive experience to include [...]

In seeking info for the video on Burma/Huron/Trail#3 I found that the Huron lookout was named in 1963. I anticipate that Huron lodge and Huron trail both take their names from the lookout but I'd be happy to hear if anyone has info. A 1967 map shows Huron trail stopping at Ridge Road but pointing [...]

For an outsider listening to people talking about skiing in Gatineau Park the most frequently mentioned places to ski are perhaps the parkways, followed by Ridge Road, followed by Burma Road.
Grab your official NCC trail map; I defy you to locate Burma Road anywhere on there.
What’s more, somewhere named Burma hardly sounds like [...]

Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray for snow that’s two feet deep
And if it falls before I wake
I pray the trail’s not mine to break -

…this is what a fresh snowflake looks like
Let’s hope we see many of these in the Gatineau Park very soon

I posted a couple pics and quick video at http://j.mp/bHs827
The trail out of P6 was recently groomed but pretty hard. Could still get an edge in it though. I soon departed on Trail #8 and found fast fun conditions but ones that take a little nerve.. . . -

This report applies to Gatineau Park backtrails. The snow is certainly feeling second hand but there is still good skiing in those hills.
Some of the not so fun is where streams have opened in the last thaw but never been re-burried.

Good running though on that firm snow.

Also saw some otter sign.

You bring very little substance to your attempt to discredit the GPPC. Obviously, you haven’t read our home page, or consulted our documents.
So let me try to answer your young conservative-type arguments:
1. We didn’t swipe anything from Wikipedia: as writer of the GPPC main page (and most of the material on the former Wikipedia [...]
